The quick answer
To keep your number, text PAC to 65075. You'll get a free code by text, usually within a minute. Give it to your new network when you order, and your number moves across, normally within one working day.
Step by step
- Choose your new deal. Compare SIM-only deals or phones.
- Text PAC to 65075 from the phone you're leaving. The reply includes your PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) and tells you about any early exit fees or remaining device balance.
- Order your new SIM and enter the PAC when asked, or when you activate it.
- Wait for the switch. Your number usually moves within one working day. You might lose service for a short time on switch day.
- Pop in the new SIM (or set up the eSIM) once it's active. Your old contract ends automatically.
Don't need your number? Use STAC
If you want a brand-new number, text STAC to 75075 to get a Service Termination Authorisation Code. Give it to your new network and your old service is cancelled when the new one starts.
Things to check first
- Still in contract? The PAC text shows any early termination charges.
- Paying off a phone? You'll usually need to clear the remaining device balance.
- Is your phone unlocked? Most phones sold in the UK since December 2021 are unlocked. If yours is older, ask your network to unlock it.
- Codes expire after 30 days, so use them promptly.
Will I lose anything?
Your contacts, photos and apps live on your phone or cloud account, not your SIM, so they stay put. You may want to note down any voicemail messages first.
