How the calculator works
It multiplies the hours you spend on each activity by a rough data rate, then by how often you're away from Wi-Fi. A month is counted as 4.35 weeks. We add a 20% buffer before suggesting a plan, so you're not caught out by a busy month.

These are averages from our data guide. Real use varies by app and settings: short-video apps and autoplay can use more, and data-saver settings use less. Messaging, email and maps use very little, so they're not included.
