Quick answer: on iPhone, use eSIM Quick Transfer: both phones need iOS 18.4 or later and the same Apple Account. On Android, choose Transfer SIM from another device when you add a SIM. If the transfer isn't offered or doesn't work, your network can send you a new eSIM.
iPhone to iPhone: eSIM Quick Transfer
Get both iPhones ready
Both need iOS 18.4 or later (iOS 26 or later to move more than one number), the same Apple Account and Bluetooth on. Keep them close together.
Start on the new iPhone
During setup, or later in Settings > Mobile Data > Set Up Mobile (or Add eSIM), choose your number or tap Transfer From Nearby iPhone.
Confirm on the old iPhone
Follow the prompt and enter the code if asked.
Finish with your network if asked
If a "Finish Setting Up Your Network Provider's Mobile Plan" banner appears, tap it and complete the steps on your network's page.
Activating the eSIM on your new iPhone switches off the line on the old one.
Android to Android

- Or later: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add SIM > Transfer SIM from another device.
Samsung Galaxy
- Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.
- Choose Transfer SIM from Galaxy/Android phone.
- Tap Transfer on the old phone and enter the 6-digit code.
- Pick the number and tap Transfer.
Switching between iPhone and Android
Moving an eSIM between iPhone and Android depends on your network. Apple says iOS 26 and later supports direct transfer from Android with some providers. Otherwise, ask your network for a new eSIM, which usually takes a few minutes in its app or on its website. Samsung lists EE, O2 and Spusu as supporting instant eSIM transfer between Android phones, and EE for transfers from iPhone.
Moving the rest of your stuff
Your eSIM only carries your phone number. To move contacts, photos and WhatsApp chats, see how to move your data to a new phone.
Ready for a better deal?
SIM-only plans on every big network from £5 a month. Keep your number when you switch.
FAQs
Will I lose my number when I move my eSIM?
No. Your number stays with your account. If a transfer fails, your network can issue a new eSIM for the same number.
Can I move a travel eSIM to a new phone?
It depends on the provider. Many travel eSIMs can only be installed once, so check with the provider before you delete it from your old phone.
Do I need to contact my network to move an eSIM?
Not always. iPhone eSIM Quick Transfer and Android's transfer option let you move it yourself. If neither works, your network can help.
What happens to my old phone's eSIM?
Once the eSIM is active on your new phone, the old one stops working for calls, texts and data.
