Tips for parents
- Choose a rolling plan. You can change the allowance or leave any month as you see how much data your teen really uses. Our data usage calculator helps you pick a sensible size.
- Set a spending limit. A bill cap stops extra charges for things like premium-rate numbers or roaming. iD Mobile's Bill Cap is one example.
- Check content controls are on. UK mobile networks generally apply adult content filters by default. Check with the network that they're switched on for your child's SIM.
- Turn off data roaming before trips unless the plan includes it. See how to turn off data roaming.
- Who signs up: pay-monthly SIM plans usually need the account holder to be 18 or over, so a parent often takes out the plan. Check the network's terms.
